Default Stygian for 1h 30 min with a wammo

Obsidian Flesh is such a useless spell on a warrior in DoA and yet people stick to the original Balanced build posted on wiki long ago. Out of sheer fun we finished Stygian with me as a notorious wammo (should have taken mending as well just to make it even more ridiculous). Attributes used by me: 16 Axe, 13 Strength

Note the time in the chat window (took us 1 hour 30 minute to finish stygian with a PUG) as well as the fact that we only had 2 monks

Other areas time: Gloom - 45 min, Foundry - 2.15, City - 1.30, Citadel - 35 min

Make DoA harder! -)

Nice work. I never tried DoA because no one ever wants to come with ><
Is it usually easy or hard? And is it usual for the areas to take that long?

With competent players you rip through DoA like a hot knife through butter, with bad players it's a guaranteed failure.
Average time for DoA areas is twice as long

Agree with skuld, a tank that I go with tends to not take obsidian flesh either, prefering shockwave and aftershock for damage, but this is a very welcome change.

Im guessing you dropped the SB too?

Finally some rebalance in DoA... GG
Only 1 minor problem, if you are a W/Mo (almost) no 1 will invite you to a party

Well, aftershock proved to be useless comparing to Crystal Wave and Teinai's Crystals. Both spells do armor ignoring damage and are boosted by lightbringer title (115 unconditional damage to all adjacent foes; that equals 230 dmg every 20 seconds x number of foes. With 6-10 monsters basing you it's up to 1380-2300 dmg every 20 seconds)

And, there is no need to be a wammo at all; better choices are still W/Me (Winter + Mantra of Frost in Foundry) or W/E with something like this:

[skill]Glyph of Concentration[/skill][skill]Stoneflesh Aura[/skill][skill]Shockwave[/skill][skill]Crystal Wave[/skill][skill]Teinai's Crystals[/skill]

Ah, I monked with you in City, Mr None. The rumors about you being a good tank were correct. :P You used that shockwave build, it was nice to see a tank doing damage for once.

Smok Margoniteater is my Guild Leader _^_

Anyway, good job. Now, if only someone would make a DoA build with an Assassin so I could also play there for a change

Congratulations on completing DoA areas in those amounts of time without resorting to horrible cookie-cutter trash.

Nice work, the only area i've completed is Stygian as the teams I get for the other areas tend to suck. It's nice to see a tank taking a build that hasn;t been proven can out do a tank that has a build proven 100s of time Hope to cya around.

this cant work in foundry can it? 3 shatters in a row would devastate u?

the cool thing about the cookiecutter thing is that u can do all areas with it, or so ive been lead to believe :P

As for the foundry -
I always take winter (when I play my necro) or ask BiP to bring it when I play my warrior.
First of all, titans get double damage from cold. For example - shockwave deals 17 earth damage to Dementia with each hit, with winter it deals 34. Also, Mark or Rodgort used by Tortureweb Dryder doesn’t trigger with winter. And most important, I go as W/Me with Mantra of Frost. That alone cuts damage you get in half and mantra can neither be stripped nor interrupted.

Let’s see what happens when you face a group of Dream Riders (mesmers) and Torturewebs (Fire Elementalists)
You have 96 base armor against them (80+16 on the Shield) + 40 from Dolyak Signet and maybe 10 from shield (say, Aegis or Terror) that makes 146 in total. With that amount and two healing monks and 45-50% damage reduction from mantra damage from Torturewebs can be totally neglected

Now the Riders. To my observation they have something around 18-19 in Domination
The following is what they use to deal damage:

Cry of Frustration (53 dmg at 19 dom)
Power Spike (124 at 19) – ONLY if you’re casting a spell
Shatter Enchantment (123 at 19) – ONLY if you had an enchantment on you

So, if you don’t have enchantments and don’t use spells, neither the Riders nor Torturewebs can kill you with two monks healing you.
They don’t have any anti melee skills. Why not take simple melee build?

To sum all the above, simple rules for foundry:
1. Go Melee Skills + Mantra of Frost + Mantra of Resolve + Dolyak Signet
2. Ask BiP to take Winter
3. Dispatch groups of Riders on their own; don’t pull them and other groups together.
4. Try not to have enchantments on you without spell breaker
5. Ask SB monk take Arcane Mimicry and copy Healer’s Boon all the time
6. Don’t waste your skill slot on essence bond, it only triggers if you take elemental or physical damage AND only if you get more then 0 damage
7. Eles better take Protective Spirit and cast it on themselves when they catch agro
8. Dont use air attunement when fighting riders, remeber the 123 Shatter Enchantment damage?
9. Try not to use Symbiosis when fighting dementia alone – they benefit from it
10. Smart SS necro with Mantra of Frost + Mantra of Resolve will get you to Fury in no time. Just don’t use hexes while fighting Fury – Hex Eater Vortex used by his guardians will render hexes useless
11. Experiment with the builds, don’t copy outdated/poorly designed/overdefensive ones
12. Try something that completely different from the above

... Ah yes... good old Winter...

Goes nicely with Greater Conflagration... at least it does if you don't mind losing the effectiveness of a shiny armour bonus against physical damage.... but then I practically never bring Warriors anywhere.

Greater Conflag and Winter... with Two Elementalist Nukers and a Minion Master... will rip hell through fire-based Titans... ^_^

[But then I don't like fighting fire-based creatures anyway... mostly because they would use MY trick against me: Greater Conflag + Mark of Rodgort.]

I do have a tendency to ramble for no apparent reason.

Anyhow... congrats on using a Wammo.
And yes, if you wanted to up the cheese you'd bring Mending.... but if you REALLY wanted to up the cheese, you'd use a Fiery Dragon Sword too... (and with Winter up, it probably wouldn't be such a bad plan).
